Guide: buy and sell a token

This guide is for anyone trading a token on hartiilabs.com. Every token has its own trading panel on its page. You trade directly against the token's bonding curve, a built-in price formula that always buys and sells, so you never wait for another person.

What you need

  • A Quai wallet: Pelagus on a computer or Blip on a phone.
  • QUAI for the amount you want to spend, plus network gas (the small fee each transaction pays to the network).
  • Your wallet set to Quai Network.

Buy

  1. Open any token page. Press Trade in the left menu to browse (the home page has Trending, New, Movers and Graduating tabs and a search box), then click a token.
  2. In the Trade panel, make sure the Buy tab is selected.
  3. Under QUAI TO SPEND, type an amount or press a quick chip (1, 5, 25 or 100 QUAI).
  4. Read YOU RECEIVE (EST.). This is your estimate of how many tokens you will get.
  5. Press Connect wallet to buy if you have not connected yet. Approve in your wallet.
  6. Press Buy. Your wallet asks you to sign. Check the amount and confirm.

You will see Sent — waiting for confirmation… and then Bought confirmed, with how many tokens you got. A View on explorer link opens the transaction.

While the trade runs, a small trade card sits in the corner (above the tab bar on a phone). It shows which step you are on (Quote, Sign in wallet, Broadcast, Confirmed) in one short line. It also shows Pay, Quote, Impact with a tiny curve of the price before and after your trade, and Slippage. After it confirms, Quote becomes Got, with how far the real fill was from the quote, plus the Gas you paid and the tx link. The card folds away after a few seconds. Press View on the trade pill to open it again, or × to hide it. It only shows information. It never changes your trade.

Sell

  1. Open the token page and choose the Sell tab.
  2. Under the token's symbol, type how many tokens to sell, or press 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%.
  3. Press Sell.

By default a sell asks for two confirmations: first an approval for exactly the amount you sell, then the sale. This is a safety choice. You can switch to a one-time approval in Settings.

Details

Press Details at the top of the panel to see more:

  • Slippage tolerance is how far the price may move against you before the trade cancels itself instead of filling at a worse price. Auto picks a value from your trade size (the button shows the current number, for example Auto 0.5%): 0.5% under 1 QUAI, 1% from 1 to 10 QUAI, 2% above 10 up to 50 QUAI, 3% above 50 QUAI. You can also choose 0.5%, 1.0% or 3.0%.
  • Price impact is how much your own trade moves the price. On a small curve a big trade can move it a lot. If it is high, the button asks you to tap again to confirm.
  • Est. gas, Trading fee and Est. total show the network fee, the fee rate the curve charges, and your total cost for a buy.

Hover (or long-press on a phone) most labels on the page to see a short explanation. The panel also has keyboard shortcuts, listed under it: B / S switch Buy and Sell, 1 – 4 pick a preset amount, M fills the maximum, Enter sends and Esc clears.

See what you hold

When your wallet is connected, the token page shows a You hold panel right under the price (above the chart on a phone). It is read-only: it never signs or sends anything. If you are not connected it shows one line, Connect to see your holding, and if you hold none of that token it says so.

  • Balance: how many of this token your wallet holds. Hover or focus the number to see the exact amount.
  • Value: the balance at the token's last price, in QUAI and in USD. The ≈ sign means it is an estimate; the page refreshes the price about every 30 seconds while the tab is visible and again after each trade.
  • Share of supply: your balance as a percent of the token's current supply (very small shares show as <0.01%).
  • Average cost and gain or loss: what you paid on average for the tokens you still hold, and how your holding compares to that at the last price. The panel only shows this when your recorded buys and sells on this token add up to exactly your balance. If you received tokens by transfer, the indexer has not seen your latest trade yet, or the history is too long to read in full, it says Cost basis unavailable instead of guessing. Gain or loss figures describe the past and are not advice.
  • Sell max: opens the Sell tab with the largest amount you can sell right now (tokens that are still locked by vesting, or more than the curve can take, are left out).

A value the page could not read shows as — or with a Retry link, never as zero.

Measure a move on the chart

The chart toolbar has a Measure button (the ruler icon). It shows how much the price changed between two points, like the measure tool on other charting sites.

  1. Press Measure. A hint says to click or tap the start point.
  2. Click or tap the start point on the chart, then the end point.
  3. The chart draws the span and shows the percent change (for example +12.4% or -3.1%), the price change in the unit the chart is showing (QUAI or USD), the number of bars and the time between the two points.
  4. Press Esc, click the chart again, or press the Measure button to clear it. Changing the timeframe or the QUAI/USD view also clears it, because the points belong to the old view.

A measurement is temporary: it is not saved with your drawings. It only describes past candles. It is not advice and not a promise about the future.

Fees and limits

  • New curves charge 1% on each buy and each sell. The curve owner can change it later, but the contract caps it at 3%.
  • Half of every fee goes to the token's creator and half to the Hartii Labs treasury.
  • Launch protection: for the first 20 blocks after a launch, one wallet can buy at most 1% of the curve supply. If you hit it, try a smaller amount or wait a minute.
  • A creator's own allocation unlocks slowly (vesting). Creators can only sell the part that has unlocked.

Common mistakes

  • Wrong network. Switch your wallet to Quai Network, then try again.
  • "Insufficient QUAI — you have …" on the button. You need the amount plus gas. Lower the amount or add QUAI.
  • "Price moved beyond your slippage tolerance." If no transaction was submitted, or its receipt confirms a revert, refresh the quote and review the new terms. Be careful: raising slippage lets the trade fill at a worse price. If you have a submitted hash, check its receipt before trying again.
  • A read or RPC request fails before signing. Refresh the token's state and review a fresh quote after the connection recovers. The Labs 1.17.5 release keeps transport, rate-limit and upstream read failures from being remembered as a missing curve method. It does not automatically submit a trade after recovery.
  • Tokens missing from your wallet after a buy. Wallets only show tokens you add by contract address. Import the token address once and your balance appears.
  • A trade looks pending. Do not send it again. Open the View on explorer link, or look up your wallet on quaiscan.io, and read the receipt. If it says Reverted on-chain — only gas was spent, nothing changed and you can try again.
